The Roman Bridge
The long, low bridge that gave the town its name is one of Portugal's most photographed monuments - a graceful sequence of Roman and medieval arches spanning the broad, shallow Lima River. Dating to the 2nd century AD on its original Roman piers, it was widened and extended in the 14th century. Walking its worn stones as the Lima glimmers below, with the medieval town rising on the far bank, is one of Portugal's great simple pleasures.
