At the heart of the Upper Douro, the village of Pinhão is famous for its stunning azulejo-tiled train station, each panel depicting the valley's wine harvest. Nearby schist villages cling to hillsides in time-forgotten quietude, their stone houses glowing amber in the afternoon sun.
